BANNER
SUGGESTIONS
Nature's
relentless forces are impossible to predict in intensity, duration
or timing. Under extreme conditions, winds can create hundreds,
or even thousands of pounds of force, affecting the fastenings,
the moorings and the banner itself. Cold weather can diminish
the material flexibility, further reducing the expected life
of the banner. The continual stretching and flexing of the material,
through the action of the weather, can cause material fatigue
much in the same manner that repeatedly bending a plastic piece
back and forth will cause it to also break. For outdoor use,
particularly with banners mounted in vulnerable locations, extreme
care should be taken on the installation, ongoing use and maintenance
of your banners.
Outdoor
Applications
1.Wall
mounted:
fasten with lag bolts and washers, through grommets, into wall
mountings.
2.Frame
mounted:
tie onto frame, through grommets, with nylon cable ties, bungee
cords, ropes or special fastening hardware. Ensure that tension
is kept taut in order to minimize flexing that may break down
the banner.
3.Fence
mounted:
tie onto fencing mesh, through grommets, with nylon cable ties.
The action of the wind through the fence mesh or slats will
likely involve abrasion of the banners against the fence. This
abrasion will break down the banner material. Ensure that tension
is kept taut in order to minimize flexing that may break down
the banner.
4.Post
mounted.
(Suspended between posts or pillars.): tie to posts with rope
that has been sewn through the material to enhance strength.
To further ensure integrity of the banner we recommend the use
of a guy wire running to the top and bottom of the banners.
Guy wires are to be attached to the post by mechanical means
(clamp, bracket, etc.). Banners are then fastened to guy wires
by nylon cable ties. The guy wires will take the brunt of the
force. Ensure that tension is kept taut in order to minimize
flexing that may break down the banner.
Indoor
Applications
5.Wall mounted: Ensure banners
are properly secured into wall material.
6.Ceiling
mounted:
Ensure banners are properly secured. Ensure that fastening devices,
suspended ceiling, anchors, etc. are designed to accept the
weight of the appropriate banner.
7.Window
mounted:
Ensure
that the adhesive used to affix the banners is appropriate to
achieve a positive grip. Ensure that condensation on the window
will not adversely affect adhesion.
CAUTIONS
•
Do not mount banners over automobile thoroughfares or pedestrian
right-of-ways without consulting with your local municipal authorities.
They will have additional information on permits and approvals
required.
• All outdoor banners should be taken down during extreme
weather conditions such as high winds, driving snow, torrential
rain, extreme cold (less than -20ºC), extreme heat (over
35ºC), hurricanes, tornadoes and similar conditions. The
banners can then be reinstalled after the offending weather
system has passed.
• For outdoor applications, do not mount banners by simply
tying off corners using loose ropes attached through the grommet
holes. Grommets, simply a mechanical bond to the material, will
not stand up to the forces involved.
• To ensure that your banners will maintain their image
and color trueness, they should, if possible, be mounted in
shaded or northerly locations. Direct exposure of the banners
to sunlight will result in the eventual breakdown of the inks
and materials, and ultimately affect their original appearance.
Some materials will be more affected by the actions of direct
sunlight than others.
• Prior to your installation or distribution, we require
that you inspect the banners to ensure that all of your specifications
have been met regarding image, materials and finishing.

by improper handling, installation, neglect, extremes in weather
